Recently, am hooked on bidding things on e-bay after I saw the watch that my friend bid.
This is the watch that I bid and it cost me SG$350 including shipment. Is really a good buy cos I check the price at city chain and is selling at $700 plus..
Of course one bad thing is I have to wake up at wee hours in the morning to make sure I can secure the bid. Nonetheless, is still worth the effort.

"Tension" comes to by mind when I see this image.
Its been 3 months plus since I left photography field into commercial interior design. I miss photography.
Life in interior design is not too bad given that i just barely into it for 3 months. Money is not bad but I'm aiming for more.
Hopefully I'm able to save enough to buy a car by end of this year and of course able to travel!
Good luck to myself.. need to work even harder!

Finally the Dark Knight has arrived! Definitely the best batman movie compare to the rest. Great plot, actors and director... Heath Ledger definitely steals the show, most likely will get him an oscar. Christian Bale is so-so i guess.. cos most of the time he behind the mask. Maybe the credit should be given to his stunt man. For the rest of the cast, they great too. A pity they did not really feature on Morgan Freeman which is a great actor.

Thumps up for the action and also to all those cool, deadly weapons! Who can forget the bat mobile and the super "big" tire bike. Trust me.. they look really big in the movies!
Most likely there will be another sequel as the papers reported that this movie had already has box-office record since its opening in the states! Hope they bring back Catwomen in the next one. Who else but Angelina Jolie!

I missed watching this movie at the cinema, but manage to found it on the internet..
(don't you love the internet...)

Amazing photos taken by the kids can be seen in the movies.. never mind the exposure, out of focus or the quality of the colour. What matters is the brutal truth the shows behind every pairs of innocent eyes of the kids. I think thats what makes their photos powerful. Sometimes we as professional photographers.. we worry to too much of all the technical stuff.. somehow we cant manage to capture the most simplest thing that happens around us. Even for me, i have to admit i
may no even able to shoot like them.

Sad to see some of the kids have to stay back in their red-light district. They most likely will follow back their mothers footsteps and become stuck there forever despite the hard work of Auntie Zana put in to get them out...

Glad to know that photography is more than taking a world "great, powerful or amazing" pictures.
Photography itself is able to change ones lives.

An Australian now based in Japan, Tokyo. Working as a Art director / photographer in editorial and commercial jobs. He able to capture a simple subject at a specific moment that helps you to translate into a story that require your imagination to think about. It could be anything. What is the subject doing? His thinking? or what is his or her occupation?
My favorite is the series that he shot at night along the street. The blue tint somehow give the whole series a cold and cosmopolitan feel.

I have not been shooting much lately except for some commercial jobs. I'm gonna arrange and shoot more dance shots within these 2 months and one fashion shoot this month. Hopefully everything will work out fine.
Meantime I went through my old dance shots and found this 2 pics which I kind of neglect them previously. Looking at them now, I realize that they are not that bad after all. Stillness and movement is what I gonna name them. Bobbi Chan from Arts Fission is the dancer here which am going to shoot her again.

Will post more pictures after I'm done with the shoots.

Digital Polaroid

I suppose lots of ppl like the effect of shooting polaroid but the prices for polaroid has been going up like crazy! I used to buy a pack of 20 for like 30plus, now the prices went up to $40 for a pack of 20. Thats really crazy..!!! I wouldn't spend the money. Its just too expensive, even though I have a polaroid camera.
Good thing is that there is Photoshop. I tried to create the effect but it was more difficult then what I expected. Something is still missing.. I guess is the raw effect that only Polaroid has. Will keep trying till I get the results that i I like so that I can save the money on buying Polaroids. Muahahaha

Just came back from Kelong trip near Mersing in Malaysia. Really enjoyed myself even though didn't caught any big fish! This series is shot using Holga with the multiple exposures method. Is not too bad given that is my first time using a Holga and I have some problems figuring out how much to wind. Will do a better job the next time.

Wanting to breakthrough

Did my latest dance shoot 2 weeks ago but I only finish doing the touch-up few days ago. She is the third dancer that I shot and I beginning to feel that beside shooting the jump and the long exposure shots, I have run out of ideas to shoot Dance. That why I chose a multi-storey car park to do the shoot. I hope beside the dancer moves, the whole environment will able to help in my shoot. Actually I wanted to use a light bulb for this shoot but power supply is another problem which I yet to solve, which in the end I stick to use the ambient light as main lighting.
Time and weather was not on my side on that day. Wanted to do shoot her in Tuas before heading to the carpark but it was raining on the way there.
I will try do another shoot with her. But before that I need to have a breakthrough in my ideas and lighting for my future dance shoots.
Last but not least, thanks to Zhou Lin for posing. She is also a Singapore Dance Theatre dancer from China.

The new Batman movie "The Dark Knight" is the movie Im looking out for. Too bad it will only be screen next year. Dang!!! Good thing is has a very good cast. Christian Bale still as Batman then it has Morgan Freeman, Gary Oldman and Micheal Caine..! All the seasoned wonderful actors!

First Fashion Shoot for The Pond

Did my first fashion shoot for my company while my boss is away in Italy.
Hmm don't know why the colors becomes slightly off after I upload them?
Anyway it was quite a easy shoot. Not much posing is required as the images is meant for a in-house catalog for the fashion company based in Hong Kong. Dang, if only they are published in Singapore then I would be famous... Wahahaha *in my dreams*

The challenging part was looking for the angle and the lighting. Thank goodness the weather was great on that morning. Have to thank Shin, my colleague who assisted me. She gave me some suggestions on where to shoot and things that I have overseen.

Hopefully this is not my last fashion shoot which I gonna do commercially. Watch out Geoff Ang and other local famous fashion photographers! Here comes Anvin Hoo, the next big thing...

Disappointed!

I ask Wesley from Memphis West Pictures to comment on my recent shoots.
The comment I received is
1. they are technically competent. but i have seen these type of shots
elsewhere. there's nothing unique to who you are.
2. there's no life in the new shots, don't think you're interested in
people, who they are, etc.
3. your product shots, esp the pokka can, etc are still very very strong.

Disappointed is the word to describe how i feel after reading the comments.
I guess I still got long way to go to reach the real professional level of photography.
Now I feel that, the more I shoot, the more I feel I'm further away from where I want to be.
Even though my images are getting better from last time but I feel I still have lots to improve.
Well, I guess its not about the destination, its about the journey!

Did some portraits shots of volunteers coming to the studio. Is really a good experience and of course this was a challenge for me. Its really not easy to shoot them compare to professional model. I need to comes out a theme or concept plus the lighting for each individual.
Posing ordinary people in front of a camera and make sure the images turns out good is my biggest challenge. I'm glad how some images turns out and able to relate the subjects to the person looking at the image.
Overall, I did okay for these few portraits session. Thanks to Ngiap Heng to comes out with these idea and keeping me busy while he away. Haha

Did my second fashion shoot on Monday. Special thanks to Jolene, the shy but pretty make-up artist for giving me a good price and to "Joanne" model Joanna. I will call you Jo from now on.. Haha thanks for modeling.
The shoot turns out quite good. During the shoot, I thought the shots are nice but not great. Its only when I was doing the D.I then i realize that the some of them are quite good!
I actually have a few favorites! But of course there are still a lot to improve, at least thats what i think. will study more and do more test shoots.

Salute to Mark Inglis and other 2006 climbers

In case you are wondering who the hell is this guy... well he the first ever double amputee man to reach Mount Everest in human history!
I get to known him through this amazing show on Discovery Channel call Everest: Beyond the Limits. This show documents 11 climbers trying to reach the summit of Everest. Before watching this show, I knew there are hundreds of climbers trying to conquer Everest every year, but is after watching this show i realized how much effort and determination each climber have to sacrifice to even go for this trip. Some sell away their houses, quit their jobs and even took up loan. And the most important thing is they have to risk their lives! (f.y.i there are around 20 over ppl died on the way up or on the way down from Everest every year)
Mark Inglis is one of them. He lost his both legs to frostbite more than 20 years ago to another climbing trip. While watching the show, you can see all the climbers suffering and other life threatening incidents they have to overcome. Its already a great achievement just for a normal person to reach the summit and for Mark, he have to suffer double maybe triple the suffering others have to go through. Anyone could have died at that type of situation. Imagine walking with a heavy backpack at -40 degrees,you cant breathe due to the high altitude. Your brain can't function well, your body is aching all over, you lack of sleep and rest!

Sometimes i wonder why would they want to go through all this? They are not the first one to reach the summit. They are not paid, their names won't be in any book of records and most importantly is that they may lose their lives!!
Personal glory? Pride and honor?
But one thing I learn from them is determination! Some climbers have to tried a few times before they can reach the summit. This show is very inspiring and worth every second of your time watching it. Now they are showing the repeat episode on every Saturday afternoon. Go catch it!

I shot them on last Saturday. The whole shoot went really well and it turns out to be better than what I expected. My so-called concept is simple. Just to portray them as a loving couple but not too cheesy. I want to able to capture the moment that shows the bonding and I focus on Eileen as I more used to shoot women. Haha( hope Richard won't mind). At first I really got no idea how to light and I worry if they can pose.
But as the shoot went by, everything just falls together. The lighting and the mood is just what i wanted. Although they had some difficulty in posing but as a amateur , I think they did great!

Nonetheless, really have to thank both of them for posing and Eileen to make a big "sacrifice"!
and of course to Richard too, for letting her to make the "sacrifice".

I think the shoot has brought me one step forward in my portrait photography.

I'm sure quite of no. of you guys saw her at almost every bus stop. Don't you think she gorgeous? Okay okay.. I received some comments from my colleagues that she look like goldfish lah or she got a funny forehead..blah blah blah..
I don't care... Beauty lies in the eyes of beholder! I'm sure they are ppl out there who thinks so too, if not she won't be appearing in the ad right..

Boring Sunday...

As I was typing this, my baby nephew was sitting on my lap, messing around with my stuffs. Throwing things around when he thinks its useless to him. I dont know why? These few weeks has been feeling kind of restless, dun feel like shooting, dun feel like thinking of any shoot for my portfolio. Maybe its because of the weather, its really freaking hot these few weeks. There I go again, finding excuses for myself. I knew I had to do something but maybe what i need is someone or something that will inspired or at least motivate me.

Oh god! let some rain on me... I need it badly!

Okay gotto to stop here, I can smell something funny from my nephew, I think he just shit or farted!!

Who moved the cheese?

I wonder how many people have read this book? Its a easy to read, thin and meaningful book.
Last night, I woke up half way through my sleep, and this book came to my mind. I really wonder how many of us normal people have the balls to go out there to look for their "cheese"? For me, I would!

I need to look for my own "cheese". I can't go on like this..!
I knew I gonna make sacrifices, I knew I will feel frustrated, and this is the only way I'll will be able to get my own "cheese" one day.

Hope everyone who read this have the courage to go look for their own "cheese".

When I first watch this movie a few yrs ago, I think it was so-so, but its this time i really enjoy the show! Actually I wanted to buy the vcd but i just cant find it in the stores.
